Fulton Henderson (1833-1906)
Son of George Henderson, a butler at Prestonfield House, Edinburgh and Isabella Ireland (1805-1874)
Born in Edinburgh on 16th March 1833
Volunteered for the Madras European Artillery in 1853
Sailed to India on the Coeur de Lion in 1853.
He was a tailor by trade, 5ft 9 in tall with blue eyes and fair hair.
He had signed on in the army for 12 years and was posted to the 2nd Brigade of Artillery on the Madras establishment.
Promoted to Corporal in 1858.
As a result of the Indian Mutiny, the East India Company’s army was disbanded the European soldiers were given the option of discharge or transfer to the British Army to fill specialist vacancies in the Ordnance, Public Works or clerical departments. Fulton elected to do this.

(1) Fulton Hayes (1896-1955), born in Madras 28 May 1896, baptised at St Andrew’s Church, Madras on 25 June 1896. Died in Baghdad, Iraq in 1955.
(2) Thomas Hayes (1897) born in Madras on 19 October 1897. Baptised at St Andrew’s Church, Madras on 13 February 1898. Married Nellie Beatrice Bloor in Lucknow, Bengal on 21 November 1921.

(iii) Married George Henry Crampton (1865-1941), born in Sevenoaks, Kent on 17 October 1865, died in Southend-on Sea on 26 January 1941.

Married Kathleen Eileen O’Kelly (1897-1984) Had four children Barbara Kelly (1925-1998), Lionel Desmond Kelly (b.1937), Noel Raymond Patrick Kelly (b.1931), Yvonne Kelly (b.1938) and Averil Kelly (b.1942),
(iv) Agnes Maud (Tootsie) Kelly (1897-1976). Born 22 July 1897, married Daniel Percival William Bailey. They had five children, (v) Millicent Jessie Kelly (1901-1901), born on 26 June 1901. Died of encephalitis in July 1901,
(vi) Daniel Joseph Kelly (1899-1901). Died of encephalitis in August 1901
Married (II) Charles Henry Parsons (d.1962) (1st Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment). They had three children Annie Parsons (b.1903), Harry Parsons (b.1905) and Mary Parsons (b.1908)
Edwin Percy Henderson (1875-1895), Born in Rangoon on 30 November 1875. Bombadier Royal Artillery. Admitted to Station Hospital, Gibraltar – 52 days. Died of TB in the Station Hospital, Gibraltar on 7 March 1895.

Married (i) George Joseph Colquhoun (b.c.1871-1901) Four children (I) Allan Fulton Colquhoun (1894-1947) died in Kettering, UK, (II) Arthur Frederick Colquhoun (1896-23.4.1923) born in Madras, (III) Thomas Colquhoun (1898-1945). Born in Bangalore and died on 1 June 1945 as a POW in the Far East, is buried in Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, Thailand. Thomas married Dorothy… and had three children, Trixie Colquhoun, Allan Colquhoun and Lena Colquhoun. (IV) Maud Peggy Colquhoun (2.3.1900-13.5.1975). Born in Bangalore and died in Gorleston, UK.
Married (ii) Arthur Albert Benns (1872-1939) Five children: Blanche Emma Benns (1904-1983), married Cyril George Wright (1905-1998), Ellen Benns (1906-1908), Winifred Agnes Benns (1910-2005) married William Fleming (1906-1988), three children, Jessie Benns (1913-1913) and ‘Muriel’ Lilian Benns(1914-2007) married Harold Edward Greenacre (1912-1995), two children.

 Blanche Dady Henderson (1879-1961). Born 1879. Married (i) Samuel Davies (b.c.1872) in Madras in 1879. Samuel was a sergeant in the Welsh Regiment. The Regiment went back to the UK and Davies left the Army and Blanche and Samuel settled in Wales. One day Samuel left the house for work and never came back. No one knows what happened as he couldn’t be found and there was no body. Blanche was destitute in the Welsh village but was rescued by Frederick Fulton who was stationed at the Isle of Wight. Blanche then travelled back to India and was looked after by Ada and Charles Parsons. Married (ii) Sidney Edmond Shaw (d.1942), a soldier, in Bombay on 16th March 1915. When Sidney Shaw left the Army he joined the Indian Wireless Department and was stationed in Karachi from 1940 to 1942. Charles Edwards Kelly was transferred to Quetta in December 1940 to build telegraph lines on the border with Afghanistan as the war was getting closer to India. Charles Kelly and his family went to Quetta but stayed in Karachi initially with Sidney and Blanche.When they moved to their own home in Quetta they continued to see Blanche and Sidney and joined them in a sailing trip on a Arab type boat, and for picnics in the desert, etc. Blanche came to stay on visits to the Kelly family in Quetta. Sidney died in Karachi on 3rd September 1942 and Blanche came to stay with the Kellys when they were living in Barielly . She then went to stay with her sister Jessie Holdaway (nee Henderson) and he in Delhi.In 1947 she left India and went to live in Gartmore, Scotland with the daughter of Frederick Fulton May McLean (nee Henderson).
Blanche died on 27 December 1961, aged 82 and is buried in Gartmore Cemetery, near Aberfoyle, Scotland
Walter Henderson (1880-1947). Born in Madras, 3 February 1880, baptised at John Pereira’s Trinity Chapel, Madras on 2nd March 1881. Warwickshire Regiment. Retired to Leamington Spa.
Jessie Henderson (1885-1968). Married Thomas Henry Holdaway (1869-1935). They had 6 children. (i) Herbert Fulton Jesse Holdaway (1906-1991). (ii) Walter Henry Cutting Holdaway (1909-1968), married Aileen Barbara Walton. (iii)Violet Isabella Alice Holdaway (1913-1990) married Francis William Barks. (iv)William James Pierson Holdaway (1915-1941). (v) Edwin Albert Morton Holdaway (1918-2010) married Sarah Poole and Edna Hallewell. (vi) Charles Richard Sidney Holdaway (1921-1993) married Elsie Runacres.
