Major John Lyons (1829-1887)
Son of
Arrived in Bombay in 1849, he had enlisted at the East India Company and travelled from London. In India he was posted to the 2nd Bombay Europeans, raised in 1839 and later became the 2nd Battalion, Durham Light Infantry. In 1843 the 3rd Bombay European Regiment was raised and Major John Lyons was posted to it as a founding member.  During the Indian Mutiny he served under Sir Hugh Rose. He married Mary Jane Lyons
John and Mary had a son
Major John Lyons died in Poona in 1887 while still in the army (?) and is buried in St Andrew’s Church Poona.


Paul Mitchell Lorne Lyons (1885-1960)
Born in Khandalla on 11 July 1885.
Christened in Poona on 31 July 1995
Married Aileen Olga Lionel (b.1891) in Karachi on 9 April 1917
Engineer, British India Steam Navigation Co, Karachi Port Trust 1913-17.  Worked for the Bombay Port Trust 1919-40. On 1st April 1937 the Trust was taken over by the Indian Government.On retirement in 1940 he joined the Government of India Directorate General of Munitions Production as Senior Planning Officer. He left India on retirement and went to live in Bath where he died in 1960.
They had one son

Lieutenant Richard Michael Lyons (b.1920)
Born in 53 Pembroke Road, Clifton, Bristol  (b.1920) whilst his parents were on leave in England.
